Initially known as Melon, focused on a pure digital asset management protocol, to a global infrastructure replicating the role of a biological molecule for a whole industry, Enzyme has strongly evolved over the years. When, how and why? This is our story.
About the human body
In biology, an enzyme is a molecule, typically a protein, that acts as an enabler to speed up chemical reactions in living organisms. Enzymes are essential for many processes in the body, such as digestion, energy production, and DNA replication. They work by lowering the amount of energy needed for a reaction to occur, allowing it to happen more quickly and efficiently.
In essence, the key role of an enzyme is to function as a catalyst—enabling vital biochemical reactions to occur at the rates required for life.
The Catalyst for tokenized finance
Applied to finance, Enzyme acts as a catalyst for decentralized and tokenized strategies. Just as enzymes accelerate biological reactions, Enzyme lowers the barriers to building in DeFi—boosting efficiency, speed, and accessibility. It empowers projects with the tools to create, manage, and scale tokenized strategies, while offering services that complement and accelerate the financial "reactions" they enable.
This idea of being a catalyst isn’t just a metaphor—it’s the foundation of our infrastructure. It reflects eight years of persistent work, a deep belief in the future of finance, and the discipline to keep building through every market cycle. In an industry where few projects endure, Enzyme continues to lead with resilience and innovation.
Today, our infrastructure operates at full strength, fulfilling our catalytic role at a global scale. But we’re only just getting started. With each iteration, we push the boundaries further—accelerating not just individual strategies, but the evolution of the entire ecosystem.
8 years in the making
Most know us as Enzyme, but those who've been around—the “OGs” of the industry—remember us as Melon or Melonport, a name that still lives on in the ticker of our native token, $MLN. Our legacy as early builders in this space brings more than just history—it brings reliability, trust, and recognition. The strength of our infrastructure, the confidence of our partners and users, and our reputation as an innovator all stem from years of consistently pushing the boundaries—not just of what Enzyme can do, but of what the entire industry can achieve.
✨ 2017 - Enzyme is born as Melon Protocol, one of the first serious attempts to bring asset management on-chain.
Our native token $MLN is launched, laying the foundation for an open, transparent future in finance.
💡 2018 - Our protocol hits Testnet, and we establish a DAO governance framework, years before DAOs became mainstream.
From the beginning, Enzyme was built to be decentralized, secure, and composable.
🎉 2019 - Mainnet launch
The first iteration of our on-chain asset management protocol goes live, allowing users to create, manage, and deploy strategies directly on Ethereum.
🧬 2020 - A new name for a bigger vision
We rebrand from Melon Protocol to Enzyme, and launch our v2: a faster, more flexible system designed for fund managers and advanced DeFi users.
🚀 2022 - Enzyme v4 goes live
Massive improvements in speed, modularity, and DeFi integrations. This version lays the foundation for today’s VaaS infrastructure powering everything from RWAs to on-chain instruments.
🌏 2024 - A new chapter underwriting
Enzyme splits from Avantgarde, its sister projects, reinforce its DAO structure to support its strategic development and acquires Myso Finance to prepare for a more global offering.
🛫 2025 - A new chapter opens, Enzyme evolves into the global infrastructure for tokenized finance. Built for businesses and institutions to design, launch, and scale tokenized strategies.
A catalytic infrastructure
At the heart of this catalytic infrastructure lies our Vault-as-a-Service offering, with complementary product lines including:
- Enzyme.Blue – our newly rebranded historical platform. Enzyme.Blue enables businesses and institutions to launch and manage tokenized funds, liquidity pools, and onchain financial products — with unparalleled flexibility and control, all within a unified environment.
- Enzyme.Onyx – a wallet-tokenization layer powered by our proprietary architecture. Enzyme.Onyx introduces the concept of tokenized wallets, unlocking unrestricted, modular digital asset management across the board.
Enzyme also offers advanced financial instrument solutions. Enzyme.Myso is our premier options protocol, purpose-built for institutional-grade portfolio management. It enables users to execute strategies like covered calls and cash-secured puts with just a few clicks — automated or over-the-counter, and on-chain.
Together, these offerings form a global infrastructure built to support every stage of the onchain finance journey for businesses and institutions embracing decentralized solutions — from portfolio construction and trade execution to operations, risk management, and analytics. And this is just the beginning.
